Welcome to the homepage of Furzebrook Studios, an exciting centre of creativity in the beautiful Isle of Purbeck, Dorset.

Furzebrook Studios can be found hiding behind a dense clump of trees, nestled alongside heathland in an ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’ near Wareham. You’ll find a diverse range of artists and crafters at work offering an interesting selection of classes to attend, from pottery to printmaking. There’s also a small exhibition space to purchase art and craft made at the studios and additionally, events are held throughout the year for you to enjoy.

The studios are the vision of Ceramicist Rachel Fooks, who saw the potential in turning a redundant building into a creative space to share with other artists:

Finding myself in a fortunate position where my business had out-grown my facilities, I began looking for a bigger studio space to make my ceramics and a large room for running my pottery classes. I viewed several buildings which were either too dark, cold, no disabled access or in the wrong location. When I was contacted about a redundant building near Wareham, I felt ready to be disappointed but as soon as I walked in I knew the building was perfect – it’s light, airy, warm, has lots of beautiful outside space, ample car parking and just of the main road whilst set in rural surroundings. As the building is quite big with more rooms than I needed, I decided to find other artists to share the space with me to start a small creative community which has worked brilliantly. I love being at Furzebrook Studios…. it’s a dream come true!

I have been following the ceramics of Rachel Fooks for some time, and am the proud owner of one of her sea inspired sculptures, a couple of vases and a beautiful porcelain glass bottomed bowl! I have visited her at her studio and found it interesting and inspirational to see where she works. Furzebrook Studios is a delightful hidden treasure full of creative energy. I hope to enjoy attending at least one of the classes that they have on offer!

I’ve been attending pottery classes with Rachel for a number of years now, and love doing pottery at Furzebrook Studios. The pottery studio is light, well equipped with lots of space to get creative! Rachel creates a wonderfully relaxing and inclusive environment where I have been able to develop my confidence as a potter, as well as make new friends. I’ve loved every minute of it!
